Dulce Et Decorum Est (Wilfred Owen) II. Break of Day in the Trenches (Isaac Rosenberg) Two Trench Poems sets the texts of two young poets who died fighting in the First World War 100 years ago. Both responding to the horrors of the war, they nonetheless take very different approaches. Owen tackles his imagery head-on, unapologetically showing the brutality of the trenches. Rosenberg, meanwhile, concentrates on a single peaceful moment, allowing the listener to infer the savagery that juxtaposes with the poem. Two Trench Poems was commissioned by the Welsh Music Guild for Jeremy Huw Williams, as part of the Paul Mealor Award for Young Composers 2018. This recording was made at the first performance, given by Jeremy Huw Williams and Paula Fan on October 25th 2018 in the Dixon Recital Hall, Tulane University, New Orleans US. Genre Classical
