Palestinian Demonstration @ Bil'in, West Bank, 4/6/12 by LIMBSBIN published on 2012-04-15T18:56:26Z The sounds of protest against the Israeli occupation of Palestine outside of the village of Bil'in and the settlement of Modi'in Ilit. From 3:39 onwards, you are hearing tear gas canisters being fired by the IDF over the separation wall at the protestors. In the minutes afterwards, I got a strong whiff of the gas and beat a retreat through the olive trees back to the road, face and eyes burning, throat swollen. Around 5:30 you can hear a heavy barrage of canister fire. It was a hot, sunny day. The canisters emit a thick tail of gas behind them in great arcs through the blue sky. The feeling is much like rubbing habanero peppers on an open wound, but imagine this on your face, eyes, throat, mouth, nose, etc. This was a low-key episode in the often grisly story of the occupation, and these gestures often translate into fatalities and prison sentences for Palestinians. Thank you to Tom for bringing me and the village of Blilin- particularly the Waji Family- for their hospitality.
