Nonnative Murmurs Of Dissent-Panel Discussion by Krisia Ayala published on 2016-05-10T18:02:06Z Nonnative: Murmurs of Dissent Panel Discussion // May 5 2016 | 2:00 p.m. Archives and Special Collections Gallery // Morris Raphael Cohen Library The intention of this conversation is to open the dialogue about the case of the European Starling (Strunus Vulgaris) and how current migrancy theories and laws affect the way invasive species are treated in North America. The European Starling is the subject of an incredible story that started more than a hundred years ago. All the European Starlings in North America descended from birds set loose in New York's Central Park in the early 1890s. Since then, the Starling has had a significant impact on the native bird population. This situates the species in the center of a dichotomy between coexistence and the preservation of environmental integrity.
