Letters to Ummi | رسائل إلى أمّي by Kohl Journal

We take a slight departure from conversations to share with you a hybrid episode from the Letters to Ummi community. In 25 minutes, we overhear glimpses of intimate stories shared in rushed conversations had in scattered moments of safety and care amongst anonymous members of queer families. The conversations are in Arabic, Farsi, English, Cypriote Turkish and Kurdish.

Letters To Ummi is an evolving multilingual, intergenerational and multifaceted project that centers non identifiable and anonymous ways of engagement, focusing on Queer West Asian, South West Asian, North African and East African+ realities, both from within the regions and their diasporas.

It is an on-going project that centers lived experience and questions how to safely archive vulnerable and intersectional realities.

نبتعد قليلاً عن المحادثات لنشارككن حلقة هجينة مقدّمة من مجموعة "رسائل إلى أمّي". في 25 دقيقة، نسمع لمحات من قصصٍ حميمة متبادلة خلال محادثات مستعجلة تتم في لحظات متفرّقة من الأمان والرعاية بين أفراد مجهولين من عائلات كويرية. الأحاديث باللغات العربية والفارسية والإنجليزية والتركية القبرصية والكردية.

رسائل إلى أمّي هو مشروع قيد التطوّر متعدّد اللغات ومتعدّد الأجيال ومتعدّد الأوجه يتمحور حول طرق مشاركة غير محدّدة ومجهولة الهوية، مع التركيز على وقائع كويرية من غرب آسيا وجنوب غرب آسيا وشمال إفريقيا وشرق إفريقيا+، سواء من داخل المناطق أو في الشتات.

هذا مشروع مستمر يركّز على التجربة الحيّة ويتساءل عن كيفية إيجاد طرق آمنة لأرشفة الوقائع المتقاطعة والمعرّضة للخطر.
