Peter Byrne, a journalists journalist, writer for The Bohemian by KGUA Peggy's Place

Peter Byrne is what I call a "journalists journalist". He crafts well researched 5000 word articles that are filled with facts, information and are compelling to read. In these days of sound bytes and 250 word stories Byrne stands alone. I met Byrne due to his ongoing coverage of the battle between cattle ranchers and the Tule Elk and the history of the first people who lived along the coasts and valleys of Marin County, the Miwok. Byrne premiered the story of Teresa Harlan Tiger. Her fight to maintain the land of the Tamal Huye and her activism to defend the homelands of the family heritage were almost unknown until Byrne wrote about her efforts in the Bohemian. In full disclosure, Harlan Tiger is a board member of the Native Media Resource Center, and a long time friend. In this talk with Peter, I discussed his background and history and why he chose to focus on the extermination of the Tule Elk. He is passionate about the stories he chooses and while listening to him you will understand why.
