Kay Barton, originally from northern Germany, developed a passion for electronic music at a young age and taught himself the basics using simple DOS software.
After relocating to the Heidelberg area in 1997, Kay delved into the world of DJing. Throughout the years, he has performed at renowned clubs and festivals both nationally and internationally. Additionally, he has played for various German and Austrian radio stations. Setting himself apart as not just a DJ but also an event organiser, Kay has curated electronic music events in the Rhine-Main area, with the popular 'The Place To Be' series being a notable example.
He initially experimented with different artist names and musical styles. However, in 2016, he made a deliberate shift towards pure techno music while using his real name. That same year, he made his debut with the release of his single 'Return 01' on the Belgian record label Bonzai, followed by remixes on Emerald & Doreen Records. Notably, his EP 'MacroGod' was released in 2019, featuring remixes by Dr Motte and Mijk van Dijk. Kay released music on various record labels, including Neuhain and Ballroom in Berlin, before finally signing with Trapez Records (Traum Schallplatten) in Cologne in 2020. In 2021, he moved to Vienna, Austria and continued to make a name for himself, releasing his first EP on IAMT, Spain in 2022, and collaborating with renowned artists like Tom Wax, Ross Harper, Mijk van Dijk and Tomorrowland artist YULI ANA.
In addition to his DJ and producing work, Kay also ventured into radio hosting. From 2020 to 2024, he has been hosting two monthly house and techno mix shows called 'Wiener Wohnzimmer' (formerly known as 'Heidelberger Wohnzimmer') and 'Sophisticated Rhythms' on Evosonic Radio, Germany's first station dedicated solely to electronic music.
In 2023 along with his wife Evi he established the event platform 'TRENDWÆNDE'. They organised the “Save The Planet” float at the Rave The Planet Parade in Berlin, collaborating with three promoters and label operators.
The following year, TRENDWÆNDE organised several techno events in Vienna and Berlin, including a collaboration with Ukraine's largest rave series, Laboratorium, for the “Play Techno - Stop Wars” float at the Rave The Planet Parade. Shortly afterwards, ‘CONNÆKT.’ was launched, a new, regular event series organised by TRENDWÆNDE, in which they bring together local and international representatives of sophisticated techno, such as the internationally renowned techno artists Alan Oldham (DJ T-1000, BPitch/Tresor), BB Deng (Ego Riot Rec.) or SAYTEK LIVE (Awesome Soundwave, Cod3 QR, Raw Industries Berlin).
