From the Ground Up by Jan Vaschuk published on 2020-08-29T19:14:35Z From the Ground Up is Jan's fourth studio album and his first vocal-centric release after almost a two-year-long instrumental journey during which he has been exploring the realm of contemporary classical and new age piano genres. In fact, the pianistic deviation has left its mark on Jan's style, resulting in extended intros and outros and full-blown orchestral arrangements interwoven with his trademark multi-layer synth stacks. The opening track, “Air”, has been inspired by the aviation accident that happened in the early 2000s and during which the Cypriot airplane got depressurised at 35,000 ft causing 120 passengers to literally freeze up in the air. One of them managed to send a message to his cousin. The true news story is also intertwined with Jan's personal experience of quitting the job in his home town and flying to the US to start it all from scratch in San Francisco with its bustling music scene and famously unreasonable rent prices. The experience that had some fairly hard turns, sending him into a mental nosedive that he narrowly escaped. This special Bandcamp edition includes the original voice memo of the opening song recorded in Jan's apartment in Leipzig where he washed up after his Californian shipwreck.
