H.D. Ingles

I am eighty-years-old, which means that, if I’m not careful, I’m going to be old right quickly.

As far as my personal habits go, as if they were any of your business, I drink neat bourbon and I thoroughly enjoy a Lucky Strike cigarette. I have never used narcotics and I have no intention of starting.

I am rather Conservative with a wide streak of Libertarian running through me. Maybe that needs a bit of elucidation. When it comes to American interests, I am extremely Conservative. By that, I mean, national security, a strong military, a strong economy, low taxes, etc. I think you get the idea here. On the other hand, I rather like personal freedom. For example, I believe that prostitution is not a crime.

In terms of my writing, there are categories. With respect to humor, I am neither a Mark Twain nor a James Thurber. With respect to stories, I am neither a Dashiell Hammett nor an Ernest Hemmingway. With respect to politics, I am neither a William F. Buckley Jr. nor a Winston Churchill. I hope that explains it.

I’m a Hillbilly, but I have made every possible effort to learn to speak English.

I reckon that the best way to tell you about myself is to quote Popeye, “I yam what I yam.”
