My name is Petar Jerčić, Ph.D. student in Game Development at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden. My research focuses in Psychophysiology and its theories, methods and measurements. More specifically exploring how to measure and interpret emotional states in users with the use of psychophysiological methods and equipment.
In order to do this we are employing the knowledge and understanding of fundamental theories of Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Neuroengineering and Affective Computing, since all of those theories use and explain/interpret psychophysiological methods and measurements. Mentioned theories also explain the cognitive and emotional aspects of the user as a player interacting with a system, be that a digital game, autonomous robotic systems or any other software application.
Explicit research questions emerging from the stated goals and tasks, with an emphasis digital games application:
What models and theories of emotions are most useful in the context of affective human-machine interaction?
How can emotions be measured in real time during human-machine interaction?
How can these models and methods be validated in relation to underlying neurophysiological processes?
How can these models and methods be used to realize new functions in human-machine interaction?
I also participated on the xDelia project exploring financial decision-making processes, including the role of emotion in people´s decisions. I am currently involved in the PsyIntEC project exploring human-robot interaction on a collaborative task as a basis for behavioral adaptation modeling the affective and cognitive processes.
