Cea Weaver on Tenants' Electoral Power, Mamdani's Rent Freeze Pledge, & Housing Policy by Max Politics published on 2025-10-21T21:04:05Z Cea Weaver — Executive Director of Housing Justice for All and New York State Tenant Bloc, a longtime tenant activist, and a housing policy advisor to Zohran Mamdani — joined the show to discuss renters' political power, Mamdani's housing agenda including his pledge to freeze rents on rent-stabilized housing, and more on housing policy and politics. Weaver's organizations "work together to strengthen tenant organizing, advocate pro-tenant legislation, and elect tenants and their allies to public office in New York." She has run winning campaigns to expand rent stabilization and protect rent-stabilized housing, pass "good cause eviction," and more. (Ep 536) Genre News & Politics Comment by VR My fear are becoming a reality, a few years ago a politician running for state office stated that all rent stabilized apartments should be owned by the state. Ms. Weaver enhanced that political goal by stating that building in distress should be turned over to the state but the buildings need public investment. Why can’t the state help the owners and prevent the tenants from living in slums for 10 years or more. Let NYCHA run the distress buildings, is she serious? As for non-profit organizations to run the buildings; their management fees are 20% of the rental income and presently they are in distress. Why are the owners of rent stabilized apartments the only privately owned business in NYC that is required by law to provide financial assistance to NYC renters including well-off and some rich tenants. Why, can’t the increases for Rent Stabilized Apartments be based on economics like Good Cause Eviction not be a punching bag for politicians. 2025-10-27T00:31:09Z Comment by Ann K When can we expect a podcast interview with an owner group? 2025-10-23T20:58:09Z
