Sometimes we catch ourselves taking too much for granted, be it by assuming that the recognition of the local figures we deem as cornerstones of our scenes must be automatic worldwide or by not giving them the praise they deserve even if we risk repeating ourselves in the process. Because everytime we assume ‘everybody knows’ about such a foundational and multifarious character as Eli Iwasa, we all end up losing something. Moreover, beyond acknowledgements or accolades, there is a woman that has personified most things that make the Brasilian musical landscape what it is in almost every rôle there is to be filled: untiring raver, insightful booker, tenacious promoter, devoted club owner… Everything she did throughout the history of the electronic nightlife in Brasil has been graced by the excellence that sets affectionate music extollers apart from passionate music lovers. And this mix is no exception, as it brings up one of her most prolific facets: as a boundless selector who won’t let genres curtail her imagination or circumscribe her creation. Here, instead of the vast array of Techno rhythms for which she’s best known, she takes us to a ride into somber realms through synthetic textures that hark back to melancholic visions of the future while casting nostalgic glances at the past. Escapism as its finest, especially when we consider the present at hand.
