Toronto
Tanya started listening to underground music in Toronto during the mid 80's, starting of with the sounds of old funk at the underground club called Club Z, owned by the renowned Club Owner Charles Kabouth. Yet her life soon changed once she walked through the legendary doors of The Twilight Zone, and heard her first groove of House Music. Twilight Zone was the place to be if you wanted to hear House Music, with icons like Frankie Knuckles, Dave Morales and many more classic house legends. There was no other place to hear house music at that time, for it was still fresh and totally underground.
Tanya witnessed and experienced the evolution of the house music/techno scene in Toronto, from 23 Hop, to Teddy's studio parties, Kola, Tazmanian Ballroom, Stilife, and the infamous rave scene. Tanya danced each weekend to her favorite Dj's and grooves, but always dreamed of getting behind the decks to express her own love of music.
After many years of asking her friends to mix music for her dance classes, Tanya decided it was time to take her passion for music into her own hands and threw a birthday party at Stirling Room, with Mike Gibbs and Fab Palermo of Box of Kittens, Jason Shine, and Mazi and Kian from Nature of Music. This would be her debut night as a DJ. Her set DEBUT rocked the house, and one of her life long dreams finally came true.
Getting caught up in other creative work, Tanya only recently started playing again, and is now ready to share her love of music once and for all. She has love and passions for many different styles of sound: House, Techno, Acid, Minimal, Deep House, World, Ambient, Downtempo and more. Soon she will be finally realizing another dream, by getting into the studio to create an album for Groovalicious Ceremony, her dance class that explores the chakras, mind, body and soul.
