COULDN'T GET IT RIGHT

the difference between wonderin' and knowin'
might not mean anything at all
but when you figure out just where you're goin'
i hope you'll drop a line or give a call
i'd like to know that you're okay
that you found what you were looking for somewhere along the way
   
   there'll be no you and me
   we just weren't meant to be
   we're just ships that pass in the night
   apologies, abuses
   alibis, excuses
   try as hard as we might
   we couldn't get it right

i gave you little more than contradiction
a clever nonchalance, a casual smile
i guess i never asked with much conviction
that you consider hanging here a while
that's a lack of commitment that i regret
a huge chunk of stupid that i won't soon forget
