Remembering Gary “disquiet0193-semiparallellines” by fisherbody published on 2015-09-13T12:57:13Z The track consists of two arpeggio lines based on notes G and C and notes G and F played by a Yamaha TG33 and a Yamaha CS6r that intersect by chance. The arpeggios are produced by an Undead Instrument Timefrog 3 midi controller in a semi random setting. The TG33 voice - internal preset 34 - is modulated from the Timefrog. The voice consists of 4 waveforms that are morphed with a Timefrog fader. This morphing generates a sometimes thinner sometimes thicker voice, emulating a complete orchestra or a maybe only a horn. The CS6r delivers preset voice Int40(C08). It plays the upper register melody. The track is recorded live in one take. I have cut it after about 3 minutes. I will upload the full version later on my blog. PS: The music reminds my of a beautiful record I´ve heard in the seventies: Gary McFarland´s Profiles. That record was of great influence. It opens my ears for a total different approach to bigband music. Hope you can hear me, Gary. Wherever you are. There's a thread of logic pulsing through that provides a resting place for me whilst the more aleatoric aspects play out. What I particularly appreciate is the subtlety in the voicing; all gentle and slightly probing. With harsher sounds I would have found this work threatening. 2015-09-15T14:58:39Z Comment by 337is (three three seven is) Fantastic. Gripping. 2015-09-15T14:54:12Z Comment by rupertlally Very cool - I'd never heard of Gary McFarland until now, definitely going to try and track down that record now... 2015-09-13T13:53:03Z
