String Quartet No 6: IV. Sunrise with Wedding Dresses (2016) by Andrew Ford published on 2018-05-11T08:05:02Z This is the fourth movement (of five) of my String Quartet No 6 for the Flinders Quartet. It was originally composed for Ben Quilty's short film 'The Dress', part of his installation 'Dresses for Soulaf' in 2016 at the Art Gallery of South Australia. In the film, we see Raghda, a Syrian designer and dress maker, at her sewing machine in a refugee camp in the Bekka Valley. She is making wedding dresses to sell in the nearby market, and in defiant hope that her baby daughter Soulaf (Sunrise) will grow up to wear such a dress. Those are some of Raghda's dresses in the picture. The tune that emerges just after the three-minutes mark is the Appalachian folk song 'Wedding Dress'. Genre string quartet Comment by Raphael Antonio Nazario SO FAB. 2023-08-18T11:43:07Z Comment by captainferno Love the transition into the Appalachian and in particular the pulling back into the strings @ 3:34 min...so pensive and yet delicate. 2018-10-21T02:59:27Z
