DJANARKII Bronx Humble beginnings In 1985, in the country of Ecuador a child was born. Or more precisely in the city of Guayaquil, a mother gave birth to a boy. Even more precise, it was the seventh day in the seventh month. And the child was named David. At the age of 12 that boy arrived into the borough of Brooklyn. It was 1990 and Derrick was telling everyone to call him “D-Nice” while James Todd Smith was bragging about his “Boomin’ System” And it would only be a couple of years before the grimy sounds of Black Moom and Das EFX would triumph over young David’s ears and capture the imagination of a a DJ to be. Dancehall music and West Indian culture were also an influence but it was Hip-Hop. Especially the DJ’s that brought them to his attention via ninety minute Maxwell and TDK cassette tapes. These “mixtapes” by established DJ’s such as DJ S & S, and “The Youngest in Charge” Ron G to up and coming DJ’s such as DJ Demo and DJ Dirty Harry were the tapes David would eagerly await for. With so many DJ’s to listen to, there was certainly no shortage on the airwaves. The radio dial was on Hot 97 for Funk Master Flex, Kiss FM for DJ Red Alert or WBLS for DJ Silver Surfer. With so many influences from so many DJ’s, David decided to become his own DJ and be the influencer. anarchy: n : a state of lawlessness and disorder The tools needed to become a DJ were hard to come by so David had to make due with a Marantz Duel Tape Deck with a turntable that he would use to spin at family house parties. Playing major 70’s and 80’s hits as well cumbia, salsa and house music, David, as we was known to his family, was a hit at every party. Now all he needed was a name to stand out……… In his journey trough this dream of his he bumped onto a lot of people trying to help him but one stood out and extended his hand to give him the right guidance and the push needed to be successful in this business as a friend and mentor.
