Leyla Fahada (http://www.myspace.com/leylafahada) is one of the most beautiful, sweet, and talented women I've ever had the distinct pleasure to meet. She's a bellydancer in the Washington, DC area, and is an amazing dancer. I met her in October of 2008 when she danced at the wedding of two very dear longtime friends, and I was enraptured within minutes. I still am. She's not only a wonderful dancer, she's also a wonderful person.

This track, transliterated as "Bekol basata, madarsh asheel enaya mennek wenty eb tor'osy," means, in Egyptian Arabic, "I love to watch you dance" (well, more or less). I wrote it especially for Ms. Fahada. It's a combination of sultry sha'abi rhythms, smokey synths, and a touch of cinematic drama--the kind of music you'd expect to hear playing in a Delta casbah in the year 2050 as some gorgeous young woman with hazel eyes dances like the earthly avatar of Wadjet herself.

Writing this piece has, incidentally, inspired me to start work on a series of related "futuristic Egyptian" songs that will be released under the title _eGypt_ sometime this year.
