This was the fifth album released by dave Graney and Clare Moore since their first band, the Moodists, had finished. It was the follow up to the breakthrough "night of the Wolverine". Music by bass player Gordy Blair, Dave Graney came up with the concept of an audio "day in the life of a pop star" and chose Serge Gainsbourg to be the pop star.
