the cellar and point, "white cylinder (a)" from 'ambit' (Cuneiform Records) by Cuneiform Records published on 2014-08-04T18:39:57Z the cellar and point // ambit debut record out October 14th, 2014 on Cuneiform Records http://www.thecellarandpoint.com https://www.facebook.com/thecellarandpoint http://www.cuneiformrecords.com THE CELLAR AND POINT is an adventurous "garage chamber" septet whose musical universe comprises the detail of modern concert music, the improvisational sensibilities of downtown jazz, and the emotional directness of alt-rock. Formed in 2010 by drummer/composer Joseph Branciforte and guitarist/composer Christopher Botta, the ensemble features an impressive cross-section of young talent from NYCʼs classical, jazz, and new music scenes. Members of the group also currently perform with JACK Quartet, Mivos Quartet, Ensemble Signal, and Mantra Percussion. Time Out NY's Steve Smith has described the ensembleʼs sound as “ethereal chamber-prog” and lauded their live performance as “brainy, yet highly engaging.” After three years spent crafting their debut recording, the band will release "Ambit" on Cuneiform Records in October 2014. In addition to drums and acoustic guitar, the group features Christopher Otto (violin), Mariel Roberts (cello), Joe Bergen (vibraphone), Terrence McManus (electric guitar), and Greg Chudzik (bass). the cellar and pointʼs songbook includes original compositions by Branciforte and Botta as well as imaginative arrangements of such composers as Anton Webern, György Ligeti, and Pierre Boulez. Since 2010, the ensemble has consistently polished its live performance in NYC, sharing bills with such artists as guitarist Ben Monder, bassist/composer Florent Ghys, guitarist/composer Andrew McKenna Lee, and David T. Little's Newspeak. After the release of its debut record in September, the cellar and point is planning its first East Coast tour for fall 2014. joe bergen - vibraphone christopher otto - violin kevin mcfarland - cello terrence mcmanus - electric guitar christopher botta - acoustic guitar + banjo rufus philpot - bass joseph branciforte - drums Genre Garage Chamber Comment by OaksHitMe insane 2015-09-18T13:30:41Z Comment by John Horne - Bassist This is really great 2014-11-29T19:45:35Z Comment by Joni Ilmasti Brilliant..but astonishing! 2014-10-13T05:51:03Z Comment by the cellar and point Thanks everyone!
