To inaugurate our first installment of Cicada we welcome Oakland based electroacoustic composer, improviser, and sound artist Amma Ateria @ammaateria. A delicately crafted hour long sonic meditation that reflects the internal narratives that arise as we continue to navigate the current state of living in quarantine. How these narratives create a nonlinear understanding of time, bringing us in and out of lucid states that are expressed in wistful arcs that mirror the nocturnal tides of an ocean. There is the feeling of loss, of fear, the memories we return to, the places we’ve been, the ones we have yet to go, there are moments of acceptance but most of all there is hope.

“Time unfolds in many dimensions. In isolation, time becomes a perception and escapes the persistence of awareness. During binaural states, internal fluttering diminishes to solitude for free-form thinking. In infinite loops, the past repeats itself with hopes of variations in future times, transforming deafening noise into meditative stance”.
