Pastorale by Christopher Painter published on 2017-11-03T14:55:15Z 'Pastorale' is a setting, with the generous permission of the poet's widow, of "Peace in the Welsh Hills" by Welsh poet Vernon Watkins. Written while I was an undergraduate at University College Cardiff (and before I started studying with Alun Hoddinott), the work was commissioned by the D.Afan Thomas Masterclass as part of the prize for being awarded the D.Afan Thomas Music Scholarship. The brief was to produce a work for SATB soloists and chamber ensemble that followed in the same vein as Vaughan Williams's "Serenade to Music". This recording of the 2nd performance (from 1984)was made at the New Hall, Corbett Road, Cardiff with the University College Cardiff Chamber Choir & Orchestra, with myself conducting. Poor quality recording Genre Classical Comment by WalkingEars Rich and expressive composition. Emotional, romantic and captivating 2019-10-07T20:31:27Z Comment by Christopher Larkins | Composer As someone who has spent quite a bit of time in the stunning Welsh hills, this poignant work reflects the peace and inspiration that can be found there. 2019-07-05T01:08:29Z
