Way to Warsaw - Poland Parables by caweaver published on 2023-01-21T18:19:00Z “Way to Warsaw” with Mary-Catherine Pazzano, vocals, Carol Ann Weaver, piano, gently, nostalgically leads us into Poland Parables by Carol Ann Weaver (text by Connie Braun) as Connie travels to Warsaw with her mother who, in turn, remembers her childhood and an attempted flight from Poland during World War II. As the larger work unfolds, Poland Parables chronicles experiences of Mennonites and their neighbours in Poland and Ukraine, as Poland is invaded and occupied by Nazi Germany and then by Soviet Union. Pain is part of this story, as is hope and vision for healing. The music pays tribute to current events presently unfolding in Ukraine and is dedicated to these children and families and refugees from war. Carried by rhythms of words, music, and silence, Parables pays tribute to the lasting grief of the Holocaust, to unfathomable human displacements, and stories of migration which, in the present day, rival that time. Would that these WWII stories were not so timely, and so frighteningly similar to tragic, deadly events in Ukraine today.
