Pixels, 2025 by Carlos_Rosas published on 2025-07-01T23:13:15Z Pixels, 2025" (quadraphonic fixed media) transmutes a single photograph of flutist Wilfrido Terrazas mid-performance into four channels of electroacoustic sound. Extracting data from the image’s pixel luminosity, color gradients, and spatial coordinates, each track maps visual information to distinct sonic parameters: amplitude/texture, microtonal pitch fields, rhythmic density, and immersive spatial motion. The work fractures a frozen moment into granular synthesis and glitch artifacts, transforming Terrazas’ embodied gesture into an abstracted auditory architecture where the flute’s absence resonates spectrally. Developed during doctoral research at UC San Diego, this piece explores photography as sonic code — a data-driven meditation on memory, mediation, and the noise latent in stillness. (Acoustic version in development.)
