Beartown Zodiac Bournemouth David Bird-Hawkins (Vocals / Guitar) Alison Jay (Violin / Synth) Tiff Wheaton-Green (Bass / Vocals) Matthew Musial (Guitars / Drums / Producer) Martin Ruddock (Guitar) Beartown Zodiac are an Indie-Pop outfit based in Bournemouth, England led by singer and songwriter David Bird-Hawkins. After a year of travelling the world, armed with a white Flying-V Ukulele and honing his song writing abilities, David returned to the UK to perform under the name of Beartown Zodiac. Initially a solo project, in 2012 David began working with a full band - Tiff Wheaton-Green (Bass), Matt Musial (Drums) and Alison Jay (Violin/Synth) - enhancing and unlocking the full potential of his songs. May 2013 saw the DIY release of their debut EP Karaoke Bites, produced by The Sunday's Patch Hannan . The four track EP, conceived whilst on a journey that spanned twelve countries in as many months, was released on indie label Woodenhouse and received positive reviews by the music press. Beartown Zodiac received decent radio airplay in the months leading up to the release, with the BBC one of their main supporters. They were invited to play a live session on BBC London and enjoyed coverage on BBC Introducing. Tom Robinson of 6Music and Fresh On The Net has included Beartown Zodiac on his Freshnet Gems playlist and the band has made the Listening Post shortlist on three occasions. In January 2014 the band supported Mark Morriss of The Bluetones. The debut album, Star Map Home is released March 2015 on their own label The Burrow Bournemouth. Eleven tracks explore wanderlust and homecomings, popular culture and a Zombie apocalypse. Star Map Home will have your blood racing and yearning for adventure before tucking you back into a warm melodic bed of sound. Beartown Zodiac’s sound ranges from beautiful acoustic and violin numbers to all out synth and guitar-soaked rock. Their music embraces all minutiae of life; from an atmospheric love song about a broken i-Pod (Time Stands Still) to synth-pop I was a Zombie which delves into the mind of Brazilian footballer Ronaldo on that fateful day at France 1998. Influences encompass Grandaddy, Blur, Magnetic Fields, Eels, Pavement and everything in between.
