"Deep Cut" is about wrestling with the emotions tied to grief and the struggle to pick yourself up after losing a loved one. The song is written as if grief were a person, depicting the relationship I had with it at the time. It ties both the inner conflict and the determination to heal together. We wanted the lyrics and overall sound to capture the physical and emotional strain of loss, the feeling of being unprepared despite putting on a brave face, and the ongoing battle to move forward.
