Librarianship The Script by </RANT> published on 2017-12-12T21:44:12Z Episode #2 features a group of badass librarians. We talked with Jenny Ferretti, Amanda Meeks, and Kai Alexis Smith about information activism, wishing Twitter was your boyfriend and the unbearable whiteness of librarianship. Genre Podcast Comment by </RANT> @michael-david-miller-1: Hello there. So, the comment was made by a woman of color and referenced not just the requirement to speak multiple languages but also the requirement of time and money expected from students of color. As you know the field of librarianship is predominantly white and given the way people of color are oppressed the likelihood that students of color who do not come from a background where multiple languages are spoken having access to the education necessary to speak more than language is fairly low. The comment is nuanced and is about the elitism of an expectation that at the end of the day has only shown to be effective with bringing more white students into the pipeline of the field. 2017-12-17T20:40:13Z Comment by Michael David Miller Can you elaborate at the 29:39 part with the "elitist" comment? I heard it as requiring learning / speaking multiple languages as being elitist and it worries me. Thank you in advance. 2017-12-14T19:25:17Z
