Arlen Hart - Pigs & Dogs by Arlen Hart Ginsburg

Brooklyn based producer/composer/pianist Arlen Hart, has enlightened us with a bold re-creation of Pink Floyd's seventeen minute masterpiece "Pigs & Dogs".  Completely self produced and performed, the interpretation from Pink Floyd's 1977 hit album Animals carries a clear through-line of instrumental music.  It begins with the immediately recognizable chords of "Pigs On The Wing (Part One)", and what happens over the next 16+ minutes is suspenseful, surprising, and wholly engaging.  The instruments are a journey in themselves from synths and organs to accordions and thumb pianos, layered with delicately placed snippets of the original song. "I had no idea what was going to come next.  As I turned the corner on each section of the original music, I had a new blank slate to compose my own re-interpretation," says Arlen, "It was a true journey from start to finish.  My focus [throughout the year it took to make it] was to create something that anyone - the band, fans of the band, or listeners who've never heard the original album, could all connect with and enjoy.  I honestly did not intend to do this, it just sort of started one day and then as I kept listening to what came next, I kept hearing more ways to convey the brilliance of Pink Floyd."
