Punktastic "....eagerly anticipated by the ears and eyes of Indie Britain." The 405 “Katie Malco plays a right-handed guitar upside down but this shouldn't worry you” DIY Taking a darker soul-searching route since her wonderful EP Katie Malco & The Slow Parade on Alcopop! Records back in 2011 (The Slow Parade), Katie Malco is back with the undoubted highlight of her career so far – her new EP Tearing Ventricles. Lilting heavy piano accompaniment with soaring vocals that effortlessly evoke a whole diorama of emotions, this is brave new territory for the girl who flippantly describes herself as ‘Pop music for people that don't like JLS and so on’ – and yet the music itself speaks far more than any lazy metaphor could describe in a press release. One of many highlights, the complex EP ends with a breathtaking cover of hardcore band Pariso’s Mystifier. Lead single Ventricles is available as a free download today – from Soundcloud and Bandcamp. The tour version of the new EP (backed with her last EP Katie Malco & The Slow Parade as B-side) is available from the Alcopop! Store (www.ilovealcopop.co.uk) now on limited edition red 12” with postcard inserts. In Katie’s words; “Over the year I lived in Brixton, I wrote an EP’s worth of songs on the piano, each song marking a different turn in the year – endings and beginnings. I decided to go into the studio and record everything live. Producer Jamie Field (Tubelord, Tall Ships) and I went to my old University in Kingston where there’s a huge live room and a Steinway grand piano. We went in, mic’d up, I sat down and played the songs live in full takes. In around 12 hours I had completely exhausted myself and also recorded an EP – Tearing Ventricles.” TOUR: July 16 The Belted Galloway Newton Stewart, Scotland July 17 Opium Edinburgh July 20 Carefully Planned Manchester July 21 Arena Galleries and Studios Liverpool July 22 Gaslight Club at Oporto Leeds July 23 Labour Club Northampton July 24 Fools Paradise at Catch Shoreditch, London July 25 Frog and Fiddle Cheltenham July 26 The Gallimaufry Bristol July 27 Café Irie Newquay July 28 Live Bar Truro For more information, contact jack@ilovealcopop.co.uk Genre Indie Folk Pop Comment by deviate magazine Featured in the Midweek Music Club @ dickeads.com - dickeads.com/midweek-music-club-15/ 2013-09-06T14:46:53Z Comment by Musos' Guide Tweeted @musosguide 2013-07-10T13:33:19Z Comment by Andytunes Amazing song! 2013-07-05T22:17:14Z
