Capping off a stunning 2010, Gold Panda was awarded the Guardian UK's First Album Award for his debut album Lucky Shiner. Announced in late January, the competitors included Marina & The Diamonds, Mount Kimbie, Ikonika, and Stornoway amongst others. Described by The Guardian as "a combination of warm, lo-fi electronica, a patchwork of crackly samples and melodies that stick", the newspaper based its decision upon the fact that Lucky Shiner was "the album the panel have found themselves coming back to the most." A fair and enjoyable old-fashioned reason for issuing the accolade. Lucky Shiner also made many end of year lists by Pitchfork, Mojo, Stereogum, Mixmag, Rough Trade, The Independent, Drowned in Sound and many more
