Porch Swing Orchestra, an art project by Barry Stone that began online, explores the interplay between site-specific images, musical improvisation/chance operation, and field recordings.
Pictures taken on-site accompany fleeting melodies recorded among conversations of passersby, the rattle of air conditioners, birdsong, sirens of cicadas, and all manner of environmental sonic phenomena.
This is the first solo exhibition of work culled from the Porch Swing Orchestra Project. The framed works reproduced on the flip side of this insert were selected from Stone’s over- 200 published PSO images. The audio on the A-side of this record accompanied those images when they were originally presented online. Side B includes a new selection of field-recorded pieces made in the spring of 2024 in Marfa, Texas.
