In her lecture, prof. Isabel Grimm-Stadelmann (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities) discusses such factors as, inter alia, critical evaluation and redaction of the traditional sources, clinical and therapeutical experiences, additions and innovations in the field of pharmaceutics and materia medica, including “alternative healing” by “recycling” Graeco-Egyptian iatromagical motifs, which made Byzantine medicine a unique branch of knowledge in the Medieval Mediterranean. *** The 30th Rector’s Lecture was held November 8 2023 at the Biedermann’s Palace, accompanying the project: Horizons of the humanities 2023: Lodz meetings with foreign researchers of Antiquity, Middle Ages and Modern Period conducted by the Ceraneum Centre, University of Lodz.
