Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar was born on 5 January 1926 in Pune. He got great response for his first book 'Geet'. In 1956 he got a Sahitya Academy Award for his book "Natsamrat". He was the step brother of the famous Marathi singer Nitin Mukesh. He wrote many books like Jaane Ghar, Aandhari, Maachi maachi, Vishakha, Ghatsthala, Amanuensis; and Shivaji saga.
Vishunwa Vaman Shirwadkar opposed the fascist rule of India. He never sided with any political party. He participated in the Non Co-operation Movement against the British rule. He was a member of the Vidhyarthi Yatra from 1946 to 1947. Then he joined the Swatantra Party in 1956. He launched his own party by the time of the presidential election of India in 1962. During the Indian revolutionary movement in the early 1960's, he was at the forefront of the movement. Viswanath Ashar was his social and political partner. He was awarded the eminent Shikarmata Natak Purohit Puruskar in 1988.
