Mikal Wix, My Turning Cheek, poetry by TahomaLiterary published on 2022-03-14T21:44:10Z For me, poetry has always been about catharsis. Poems are medicinal; they can be both spark and gunpowder in that they give the poet and the reader a space to feel cruelty and mercy. When I remember bad times, I try to cast a spell, in essence, to reframe the pain and remake the memory so that the predator is toothless. If I achieve this, the poem will resonate for me, and maybe for others, just like the body makes a scar. The nightmare becomes a scar, too, and can be examined at leisure to understand and contain its power. Mikal Wix, of Miami, Florida, grew up among many cultures, giving him insight into many outlooks, and later, the visions of a revenant from the closet.
