The forthcoming EP from the SF-based artist Trinity Ace is called Learning to Be a Cowboy on the Horse That Broke My Arm. That title, we learned, is taken from a photo found by the artist, a black-and-white picture of her grandfather on a horse with some pencil scrawl underneath it. For sure, the music is dusted with the magic of the Old West. “Algae Bloom,” one of the two singles shared today, sprawls from singer-songwriter moments to a jazzy passage that is almost post-rock in its grandeur to an even more anthemic ending. “Martyr” is a more contained ballad, with audible influences: Callahan and Berman, to name a few. An earnest, tweaked Americana transmission.
