2070 has been an LA DIY staple for a minute now. In their time as a band—alumni include Tchad Cousins of Urika’s Bedroom fame—they have built a reputation as a dependable rock unit pushing a sound that goes in multiple directions at once. Which is on display on their new one, Big Blue, which seems to connect multiple moments in Los Angeles underground rock into a cohesive package. Sonics push between classic bedroom pop moments and more exploratory passages, between shoegaze and something approaching what some people at some point used to call garage, between melody and dissonance. It’s a great set from a band that LA shouldn’t take for granted.
