Not Phyrgian by Robin Henkel

One of my students studying bass, keyboard and music theory was exploring the possibilities of composing in the Phrygian mode. The conversation inspired me to create my own Phrygian based composition. Beginning with the C, Db and Eb chords (all played as root and 5th) I liked the sound of a B natural in the bass on the second bar. That one note pulled the piece outside of Phrygian right off the bat so I called the piece “Not Phrygian.” Jeez…I need to work up some better titles, right? Anyway that is the working title and it stuck. Happy listening and thanks for listening.
