James Weech aka Jay Complex started rapping at 15 after being swept up in the Hip-Hop craze of high school in Nassau, Bahamas. Initially, it was an attempt to fit in with a cooler crowd but instead Jay Complex discovered that he was born an artist and realized that standing out (for better or for worse) is his true calling. And stand out he did. No longer afraid to go against the grain, Jay Complex has consistently released mind-bending music for his fans. Projects such as “Underdog: The Mixtape” (2010), “b.l.i.s.s: believing life is something simple” (2011), “Underdog 2: [L]abour [O[f [L]ove” (2013) all reflect his desire to make calming music while at the same time demanding reverence for artistry in Hip-Hop. This type of sound coined as “chill arrogance” distinguishes Jay Complex as a true creative. His lyrical musings on his day-to-day life and Eastern mysticism over a laid-back hip-hop instrumentation invite listeners to an innovative musical experience. Not only is Jay Complex a founding member of BASS, a local hip-hop group, he is also a producer in his own right. He produced the group’s mixtape “What’s a Beat without BASS?” as well as contributing to the critically acclaimed project. Jay Complex’s upcoming mixtape “religionROUGE” has a July 31st 2014 release date. He has already released a music video for his latest single “nuReligion”.
