The paper was entitled '‘You know the nature of the Irish, how easily they are divided’: Tanistry, primogeniture and divided clans'. Matthew McGinty is a History PhD student studying at NUI Galway. He is currently researching a number of Gaelic chieftains, who defected to the crown government during the Nine Years War and evaluating how integral their service to crown was to the crown’s victory over the Earl of Tyrone and Red Hugh O’Donnell’s Gaelic confederacy. Tudor and Stuart Ireland Conference The 7th Annual Tudor & Stuart Ireland Interdisciplinary Conference took place at NUI Galway in August, 2017. The conference was generously supported by the College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies, NUI Galway, the School of Humanities, NUI Galway, the Moore Institute, NUI Galway, the Discipline of History and the Discipline of English at NUI Galway, the Women's History Association of Ireland, and Marsh's Library.
