The visuals aren't bad, as the anime style of the original Raging Blast is visible in some cases. Unfortunately, the overall quality is a lot lower than in the first game. The characters are unattractive, and the backgrounds, which are drawn in the typical anime style, look pixelated and less slick than their pre-rendered counterparts. In fact, the game features a weak, unlikable antagonist, Lang, with awful facial skin tones, and horribly designed super move actors. The environments are bland and lifeless. The Dragon Ball license helps the game feel authentic, but in other areas, it's simply too much of a cash-grab.
As much as I assure you that this game is the perfect waste of $60, I'll admit that there are some fun elements here. There are some well-designed sections, and a couple of different control schemes for the moves. Best of all, the fighting is fast and furious, whether you're controlling a long-ranged character like Goku or a short-ranged fighter like Vegeta. There's also quite a bit of depth here, so long as you're willing to play through the game twice to unlock the maximum potential of every character. But the controls are close to on-rails and unresponsive, and it's easy to get frustrated by enemies that just stand there waiting for you to pull off a perfectly timed combo, when you could trade a couple of hits in the hopes of pushing your opponent into the next super. Being able to power up your characters even further might have made the game a bit more fun.
As a fighting game, there's a lack of depth, especially when it comes to defense. Dropping your guard for an instant to chain a super-attack can be costly, especially when you learn that you're unable to so whatever you're doing at the time. It's often as little as a quick repositioning of your stick that can let your opponent get the hit you'd like to take. While this may sound like a minor detail, it's a big part of what keeps fighters from becoming entirely one-dimensional. a3f8a02ae1
