Cultivated Sound Sessions - CSS059: Erofeev by Cultivated Sound published on 2018-09-12T16:18:50Z Ivan Erofeev is a Moscow-based artist born in the Siberian city of Omsk, just north of Kazakhstan. His releases on French, Dutch, Canadian, and Russian labels under the alias Aleph are diverse in sound, incorporating elements of IDM, hip-hop, ambient, and techno. Ivan released two vinyl EPs under his own name in 2017, one on Gost Zvuk sub-label INSTRUMENT and another with Resonance Moscow. Both are sophisticated examples of techno. In the coming months, ÆX (sub-label of Amsterdam's Indigo Aera) will include one of Ivan's tracks as part of a compilation featuring various artists (ÆX006). For this mix, Ivan incorporated demo pieces, improvised compositions, and field recordings captured in the summer of 2018. He makes use of live-recorded drums, raw data programmed for algorithmic sequences, Ableton, and synthesizers (Moog, Access Virus, Organelle, and Koma Field synths). The set begins as a thorough machine-wash of heavy vibrations before shifting into a more rhythmic pulse. All throughout, we get the awesome impression that Ivan is encouraging his computers to speak unrestrained in their own language.
