Holy Hive - Red Is The Rose (Folk Version) by BIG CROWN RECORDS published on 2019-09-26T19:40:22Z ‘Red is the Rose’ is a traditional Irish ballad whose lyricist, like most in the Celtic canon, remains unknown. The Celtic singer borrows the Scottish melody of Loch Lomond to praise the unsurpassed beauty of a love lost. Holy Hive’s singer Paul Spring learned this tune as a 12 year old while living on the coast of Galway Bay, Ireland. The cover art is a photo his older sister Mary took of the Cliffs of Moher, which were visible on a clear day across the water from his family’s living room. This sparse acoustic recording of ‘Red is the Rose’ is both a tribute to the past and foreshadowing of a soulful full band arrangement and melodic reworking of the song which will arrive next spring on Holy Hive’s full length debut.
