Working on Symphonic Theater of Dreams score - Losing Time/Grand Finale
Please, read this description.
I would like to present “how looks” work on SToD from the composition, production and arrangement side.
This process does not always look like I wrote in this description. This is just an example.
I hope you enjoy the material and it will answer a few questions.
Part I
[0:01] Writing melody in Violin I with accompaniment Violas, adding cellos and contrabasses. Adding Violin II section, to complement the harmony.
[00:19] Writing woodwings section. Flutes, Oboes , Clarinets, Bassons
[00:41] Woodwinds (tutti)
[01:03] Creating brass section. Trombones and Horns
Part II
[01:23] Creating woodwinds ”transformation” - more extensive, virtuoso.
Other instruments – volume down (Horns, Violin I, Violas, Cellos and Cotrabass).
Part III
[01:49] The whole piece (Part I + Part II) - tutti (full orchestra) with added percussion instruments with continued part of the track, but without the melody.
Summary:
Fragment (based on Part III) contains 34 bars in 23 systems, which gives 782 bars across the score (11 sheets A3).
The first bar contains 42 notes of different values, 31 dynamic, 35 articulation symbols.
If we would like to make this fragment sounded the best on live concert, we would need min. 35 musicians. More musicians = better sound (not in every situation, but in our orchestra and project, yes ;) ).
Please imagine now. Losing Time is an epic ballad.
