Driven by her passion for Jamaican music, Sista Sara began selecting all styles of reggae from foundation, new roots and dancehall, close to 20 years ago. And while her beginnings as a Dj were strictly Jamaican styles, her travels around the world have shaped her musical focus in recent years, delving deep into the music scenes of Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Turkey and Africa, adding more musical gems along the way to her repertoire!
She plays weekly around Melbourne Australia, either solo, or with Aprieta collective, and also regularly guest hosts radio shows on PBS fm. As well as being in demand in her home town, her skills as a DJ have led to her to play numerous sets around Australia, and over the past few years, internationally, with sets in many European countries, and in Bogota Colombia.
Further accolades include MC collaborations, including performing with female duo Bahdoesa at the Melbourne Fringe festival; and supporting International acts like Jah Mason, Delus, Anthony B, Konshens, and Ceclie . Sista Sara has also graced line-ups alongside internationally renowned DJ’s, including Max Glazer (Federation Sound), and has played at major festivals including Rainbow. And last but not least, Sista Sara has been internationally recognized for her mixtapes, being featured a number of times by The Funk Hunters (www.ghettofunk.co.uk) on their acclaimed mixtape dig.
Sista Sara’s love for music from around the globe, has led to a large and varied collection and she seamlessly mixes all forms of these genres into her sets. She’s is equally at home playing an intimate bar set, as she is to rocking a big party on the main stage, but either way, her beats will make you want to dance.
