01 Dandylion - The Monster

Images Under Construction, the debut album of Dandylion is a project by and with Marianne Sveen. It’s an album comprising of three parts, with the first being released Desember 30th. The album – with a few exceptions – is written, performed and produced by Sveen herself.

Dandylion started as an improvised home-studio project at St. Hanshaugen, Norway in 2004. Here, Sveen got to unfold herself freely in her own time and space. With only a mic and an old computer, accompanied by her versatile voice and whatever ‘musical objects’ found in her apartment she quickly created her own musical universe. The soundscape is intimate and unpolished, vividly illustrating where this music first came alive.

In 2005 Dandylion brought her music outside her home-studio to regularly perform in Oslo, Bergen and Copenhagen, either alone or with a band. She put a demo together in Gjøa Studio with Hans Petter Gundersen and assisted several artists with backing vocals, amongst them TNT.

That same year Sveen joined the group Katzenjammer, a project that has taken up most her time since, as Katzenjammer turned into a great success in Norway and not least abroad. After several years of intense touring around the world with Katzenjammer, Sveen is now urging to let Dandylion out in public. In an upgraded home-studio with a dozen new songs Sveen has used whatever little spare time she’s had to record her debut album.
The songs stretch across several styles and genres, performed on piano, pump organ, various string instruments, kitchen-percussion and her voice clearly being the main instrument. Melancholy soul, un-religious gospel and symphonic pop would start describing her music. With vivid and quirky arrangements, Dandylion is harmonic, gripping and uncompromising.

To underline the many boarder-crossing expressions of Dandylion the album will be released in three parts, where the first will be out December 30th followed by the last two parts in 2012. Danylion’s music will also be featured in the Norwegian film “Dunderland” premiering early 2012.
