Promiss, born Cameron Robinson, is a Baltimore native that lives by the notion: "my only weakness is telling myself NO." Promiss says he credits that belief to the influence of his close friend and fellow artist "J Cheat", known to Promiss as "Cheatm." Born August 6, 1988 Promiss was biologically destined to love music. His father, Carter G. Robinson, whom he proudly refers to as his spiritual advisor, was already known for his own musical endeavors in the arena of the Gospel genre. During his early years, Promiss came up watching and hearing his father's melodic compositions; from that point on he knew he wanted to be a performer of the musical arts. His mother, Mercedes A. Sneed, immediately took interest and encouraged her son to chase every dream he had. However, until the age of eleven Promiss' primary love was playing drums (full set). In fact, he says he initially intended to pattern himself after another Maryland native, Dennis Chambers. It wasn't until age eleven that Promiss took to Hip Hop in a way that would soon assist him in cultivation and maturation. While spending his formative years in the Baltimore County Public Schools system, Promiss often recalls freestyle battling in the bus lanes of Southwest Academy, a middle school located in Baltimore County, Maryland. From middle school (Southwest Academy) to high school (Milford Mill Academy), Promiss made a name for himself as being one of the cleverest and uniquely designed individuals through always being himself. Promiss' musical influences expand beyond music, but include Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Curtis Mayfield, and "anybody worthy of global recognition" as Promiss himself has stated. Promiss' style is actually more philosophical in its approach; he believes in the power of strong lyrical content accompanied by smooth and rhythmic production. When asked how he would describe his style, he simply responded..."music is my style...and I understand my voice is scratchy, but I have no style...all I got is music. I hear the beat and I rap." After taking time out to perfect his craft, assist others in their quest for success, and the pursuance of a degree in music which was short lived, Promiss is now the founder and CEO of Vertical Movement (VM) Recording, the label from which his first project will be released. Promiss is ready to share himself with the world; his only hope is that the world is ready to share its heart back.
