Need a gift for a gifted musician?
I went to my first rave in Portland, ME in 1994 and was immediately hooked.I used to drive for hours to raves from DC to Portland, ME, and amassed quite a collection of mixtapes (remember tapes?).From 1995-1999 I held down a weekly radio show in New London, CT, first filling in on Rave of the Phuture for DJ Leo, then putting on my own show, Sounds of the Nation, with partner in thought-crime DJ Recon. We played everything from breaks to house to hip hop to d'n'b to reggae to disco to funk, but my first love has always been teeth-grinding, ass-shaking, gut-churning breakbeats.
Mantisounds is part of the La MoDa Mixtapes collective. Please check the blog, and sign up for the podcasts, which alternate between funky-as-hell downtempo mixes from the Mighty Mosart212, and my generally uptempo, booty shakin' breaks/bass mixes, featured here on this site or at http://www.mixcloud.com/mantisounds/.
