GollumSpitShower has been alive since he was born and will live until he dies.
A Leeds based Live MC and Recording artist, Gollum writes with the aim to structure a rhyme pattern in a way that his un-acquainted family can skank along at a rave and enjoy analyzing the lyrical content at home.
Gollum had a long history with Hip Hop, and later reggae, instilling in him a strong passion for lyricism and ultimately a different way of looking at the world, at 18 he started attending raves of varying genres and ideologies, the night life quickly became his waking life, leaving the day free only for rest, recovery and working to pay the rent.
Falling in with Mr. Dips at the age of 19 he improved his vocal delivery and vocabulary, largely growing up as a song writer on the budding producers beats, at the time Dips was experimenting with Dubstep during its first few years before emerging commercially, allowing the duo to take their own direction with the music as a whole without the pressure of conforming to a wider known formula, which bred the hip hop style of story telling over unexpected genres Gollum is now known for. Since the early days, Gollum has worked with many different producers, including P-Note of I&I, Aftee, and Smudge co-owners and producers: Rippa, Tarn and Nixti. Also meeting and working with many promoters and recording technicians, he records all his personal music with long time friend and super-tech, Squee of Cyberspoon records, the same Squee who recorded his first studio track “Brenda” which was a deeply personal track to the rapper and first release on disc format, being “objection” which was sold to raise money for Unicef.
Now days you will hear Gollum spit on anything from Dubstep to Grime to Bassline4x4 to DnB, and he’s thankful for the opportunity to improve and widen his lyrical repertoire over these genres owed largely to the producers that have provided him with the blank canvases that allow him to write to, and the club promoters and dj’s that provide him a platform to speak to his fellow ravers.
You can find his music on Soundcloud and on future upcoming releases, and you can track him down in person, playing live in and around leeds, his favourite night being AndWhat at the Wire, being his monthly residency. Not forgetting of course the lyrically justified open mic nights held every week at Carpe Diem and monthly at the headingley SU Bar, which gives many artists a stage to express themselves, providing an opportunity to meet and mingle with fellow artists and the abundance of talent in Leeds, which helped Gollum greatly on his way up. If you see him out and about, come up and say wa’gwan, its always nice to meet people and he’s an approachable geezer, yet still secure enough in his confidence and pretentiousness to write in third person it would seem.
Peace people, I’ll see you on the skank-floor beside the chick wit a red stripe and an empty baggy in her hand, in front of the speakers, on top of the quick sand floorboards and under any ceiling that rains cats, dogs and sweat.
Much love,
GollumSpitShower
