Golden Beets Portland,OR Golden Beets, AKA Jeffrey Leppert, known as Jazz within his community, is a bass player and DJ based out of Portland, OR. After studying cello from an early age, Jeffrey picked up the bass at the age of twelve and began playing in bands in his hometown of Kilgore, TX. His passion for playing bass continued throughout his high school years and college where he earned an engineering degree from Western Michigan University. Jazz moved to Portland in 2006, where he met his future bandmates in Off The Grid, a band dedicated to performing improvisational music powered by solar panels. In 2011 the members of Off the Grid moved forward with new musical and personal endeavors. It was at that point that Jazz began to delve in to the world of Ableton, and Golden Beets was born as a new project focusing on music production, remixing and DJing. Incorporating everything from UGK and the Grateful Dead to German house music, Golden Beets has been creating original music and mixes that can engage just about anybody. Jazz continues to be a prominent member of the Portland music scene, not only performing Golden Beets sets but also as the bass player in local bands Boobie Trapped and The Band of Comerados.
