elemental1 San Francisco All of the music here was created in 2009, with the first version of the BeatMaker app on a first generation iPhone. The software was pretty limited at that time - each song consists of only sixteen sounds, built up into a composition by sequencing. Even to vary the pitch of a sound (e.g. to get a few different pitches with a piano or bass sound) required using up one of the sixteen slots for each pitch. So this was an exercise in trying to do more with less - to create interesting music with a very limited palette - and that is why the pitch range of each tune is pretty limited. The software did already include tools to modulate volume within a sequence on a note-by-note basis, as well as to add some delay to the timing of individual notes. I used this to try to add some life to the music - some dynamics, articulation, and in some cases a bit of groove or swing. Anyway, this was my first and (so far) only venture in writing and recording my own music...hope you enjoy it.
