A tribute to the Summer of 2010 performed at Memories
Well summer has approached, stopped, sat with us, and is now casually starting to move away. The sun is noticeably going down earlier and coming up later. Temperatures have been moderate so far this summer and has left us with a very pleasant summer feeling. Not too often do you wish it was a little warmer during summer here in Sacramento.
This years warmer season has definitely carried more weight with me.
My mixes are always a reflection of my surroundings as well as my inner feelings. This summer has been very emotional for me. Loosing Arnie Benson in the beginning of the summer was tough, he was a dear friend and a great community leader. Watching my Design Office get dismantled through several Company layoffs to the point of closing the office,(luckily I've been moved to work from home). Add to that not being sure where I'll be living next month. The owners of the house I live in like many other owners right now have foreclosed on the house. I might be able to stay, I might have to move. Definitely feels like a trying time, but with all the hills, comes some valley's too.
As the Stilldream 10 Year approached I found myself at some of the best events that one could ask for, with some of the best people one could ask to be around. Tons of wonderful great memories at events like Harmony Festival (Santa Rosa), Gemini (Area101), Cherish (SF) Lightning in a Bottle (LA), Flowr Powr(Sac), FnF 15 Year (NorCal), The Boom is Back (outside Portland), Dude Where's My Tent 2 (Michigan), Karma (Reno) and the Stilldream 10 Year Anniversary. Its been a pleasure to watch friendships and bonds grow stronger as we add another years journey to our lives. Its also been amazing to see all the growth as a culture we are experiencing, lots of awesome expression going on out there! Keep it up everyone, its beautiful!
Stilldream turning 10 Years old, was watching a dream come to reality. Just thinking about the joy of that event makes me want to roar at the sky, grab my nearest friends and family, and thank life for this beautiful existence that we have the opportunity of experiencing. All the ups and downs, gives us major perspective. Be thankful for what you have.
The outdoor season I always find myself playing more progressive music, whether it be progressive house, trance, breakbeats, techno.... you name it. If its progressive, the outdoor events make me just want to bring that sound; tough and deep. This year was no different except that I'm stepping out of what most consider for me as normal. This summer the music I found the most inspiring was the progressive, heavy and yet uplifting Dubstep sound it just resonated with how i felt.It pulled at me, the heavy breakbeats, grinding basslines, introspective and uplifting melodies. Being tough and dancey while still being chill, the best of both worlds?
This mix was put together over the weekend while at Memories 7,an event dedicated to remembering through celebration the people who have brought joy and inspiration to all of us.
This set I dedicate to everyone I've had the pleasure of sharing some of this very special summer with. Whether we were standing side by side, on opposite sides of a field at the same festival or on different sides of the planet. These are the days we will talk about in the years to come.Embrace them.
